How can i explain something like feeling the spirit to someone who has never felt, or does not realize the have felt, the spirit or the love of our lord? i mean it really is so indescribable! just the overwhelming joy and realization that there is so much more! that there is a joy and love so deep we can barley begin to comprehend it. how would you explain that? or however it feels to you, since im sure we all feel it in a different way. i was reading in 3 Nephi 17 and i came across these verses. which i relate to how it is to really feel Gods love.
16 And after this manner do they bear record: The eye hath never seen, neither hath the ear heard, before, so great and marvelous things as we saw and heard Jesus speak unto theFather;
17 And no tongue can speak, neither can there be written by any man, neither can the hearts of men conceive so great and marvelous things as we both saw and heard Jesus speak; and no one can conceive of the joy which filled our souls at the time we heard him pray for us unto the Father.
18 And it came to pass that when Jesus had made an end of praying unto the Father, he arose; but so great was the joy of the multitude that they were overcome.
i would love to read some of your own personal thoughts and experiences on this. please feel free to leave a comment! :)
What does it feel like to experience a witness from the Holy Ghost of God's love? It is like being embraced by light or enveloped in calm warmth. It is like a bright flame in your heart which makes it feel warm and glowing. The spirit can cause your heart to race, your hands to shake, or your thoughts to be graced with ultimate clarity.
ReplyDeleteAlma 32 explains so well how to obtain a spiritual confirmation. There is a process to inviting the spirit to witness to you of God's reality and love for you. First, desire to receive it, second experiment upon the word, read, ponder, pray and act. Believe that you will receive a witness. Invite the spirit to be with you and to abide with you. He will come to all those who open their hearts to receive him. He will leave to themselves all those who would be left alone. The light of Christ is a free gift to all, but it is up to us to receive it.
Nephi was "grieved" because his brothers were "past feeling." They no longer felt the promptings of the Holy Ghost in their lives.
We can discern light and darkness with our physical eyes. Our spiritual sensitivities can be just as aware of spiritual light and darkness, or in other words good and evil. If we invite the Holy Spirit into our hearts and live worthy of his continued companionship, he can witness to us of all truth, and bring God's love to our hearts.
